Well HELLO! It has been some time since I have written a post. Bad, bad, BAD. But I have good excuses and I am here to rectify the situation.
It has been crazy around these parts and it look like it won’t be mellowing out any time soon. Every year when Christmas approaches I get both terrified and happy. So much to do! Obviously for jewelry designers this is our time of year. Always a big time crunch to get all of my boutiques stocked up for the holidays and to create new items and attend all of the trunk shows and Christmas parties. But it is pretty dang fun and I find that my creativity always cranks up a notch during December. I have been busy in the studio this last week and I have to say, I am pretty excited about my new pieces. I had a request from one of my boutiques, Soto Lifestyle, to make some chunky necklaces that incorporated some vintage shoe clips and some of my vintage brass chain. I was pretty excited about the challenge because it was right up my alley (mixing in some vintage ) and I have never worked with shoe clips. So I got to hunting. I found some really cool pieces and I have been up late hours putting some new works together. SO FUN! I think the new pieces have a whole new look to them, but still have the Verve finger print. I also started to make some more pieces for my “Brass Monkey Line” incorporating the vintage brass chain with chunky stones. I got my hands on some big and chunky agate, quartz, labradorite and lapiz. It’s been fun getting back into the heftier stuff since lately I have been focusing more on the daintier, wispier pieces.
The new pieces also will be nice to have for all of the upcoming holiday markets and trunk shows. We have (3) different ones just this week alone. Let the festivities begin!
First one is this Wednesday Dec. 4th. It is a toy drive at the Rockwell in Los Angeles. It is to support Children’s Hospital Los Angeles and the cost of admission is an unwrapped, new toy. The host of the event is Jonathan Allen from “America’s Got Talent”.
The second thing we have going is we are partnering up with Liz Law Jewelry again and doing a trunk show at Co-op 28 in Los Feliz. This show is at 1728 N. Vermont Ave., Los Angeles, California 9002. We will be there from 1-4 pm with TONS of new items, snacks and sparkling wine! This is a fantastic store with TONS of possibilities for gifts! You could do all of your shopping just in this shop, on this day.
And last, but not least, is our Annual Holiday Market at our family’s restaurant, The Wirtshaus. My husband is from Germany and almost 3 years ago we, along with his business partners, opened up a German beer garden here in Los Angeles. Every year we have a holiday market featuring vendors, Christmas music, drink specials and traditional German Christmas baked goods. We even have a tattoo artist that comes and does FREE tattoos! Only in LA. This event is from 11-4pm. We will have jewelry, women’s clothes from local designers, soaps, candles, fresh baked bread vendors and BEER! We also have a delicious all you can eat buffet on Sundays and all you can drink mimosas and champagne. PROST!
It has been a bit of time since my last post, lots of things going on and new things on the horizon. The biggest and most important being the VERY SOON arrival of our first child! I am due in 5 days and we are very very excited and I am very very ready to feel like a human being again. We are having a little girl and I can’t wait to meet her. Little Dylan. I was just thinking the other day how stoked she was going to be when she gets older to have a Mom as a jewelry designer! Or maybe she will be a tomboy and not give a flying rats ass about jewelry! HA. We shall see. But if I were her I would be loving the fact that I have copious amounts of jewelry (both mine and collected vintage) coming my way.
Since she is so soon coming in her arrival I have been a little nutso-crazy trying to get new designs pumped out and pieces made for my stockists so that I don’t have to worry about them having new items while I am out of comiss for a few months. My little stacking rings have been pretty popular and I have been asked for some more, new designs. It’s been gorgeous weather here in Los Angeles, so I kicked open the big barn-like doors to my studio, got a big glass of ice tea, put on Pandora and got to work. It has been some time since I have done wax work and I missed it! It felt so good diving back into it and busted out some new dainty little fellas that I am pretty excited about.
These guys have been dropped off at the casters and will be ready in a few weeks. After they have been cast I have to decide which ones will work for reproducing and which ones will just be one of a kind. Then some will be sent off to be plated in gold. It’s all a fairly lengthy process, but the end result is always so satisfying. It’s kind of an addiction.
Besides working with wax, I have also been doing some regular wire wrapping. Which I love. So cathartic and grounding. It was also Intergem a few weeks ago so I got my hands on some new shinies… which is always inspiring and fun. I picked up some new topaz, labradorite and chalcedony, just to name a few. Fun times in the Verve studio.
