We recently had the honor of working again with another one of our favorite photographers, Dave Marano of David Marano Photography. He is the expert behind all of our product shots here at Verve Jewelry and couldn’t be more fun and easier to work with. Most of the time it doesn’t even feel like work!
Here are some pics from the session. You can also check out his beautiful work at davidmarano.com.
This past May I got an amazing opportunity to travel to Italy with my family. We flew into Rome, rented a car and drove to the Tuscany region. We rented a beautiful, quant little house in the city of Pelago and used it as our base. During the day we took day trips to different towns and had the most amazing time eating and drinking and basically just taking in the beauty that was all around us. Everything was so aesthetically breathtaking. So inspirational. The wineries, the museums and the countryside were all so spectacular. I kept getting lost in my camera as there were just so many great shots!
I just recently got a new camera so that I could start taking better pictures for this blog. So I was very excited to have my new camera for this trip. The only bummer was that I wish I knew the camera better since there was just so many cool things to photograph. So I just messed around with it a lot and had fun being an amateur photographer.
As an artist being in a place like Italy makes you want to create. All of the colors and the romance. There were many mornings where I would wake up from sleep and I would have different ideas for a piece in my head. It really made me miss my studio!
May is also the time where Italy is blooming with red poppies. Everywhere you look there were huge clusters of these super vibrant red flowers. They literally painted the countryside with red. Outside of our place in Pelago there were tons too. So my Mom and I would go around collecting flowers for bouquets that we would put around the house.
Basically you can give me great wine and food and flowers and I am pretty much a very happy girl. Well, that and the fact that I was traveling. Oh traveling. I really do love you.
After our week in Tuscany we hopped back into the car and headed back to Rome. I had heard mixed things about Rome so I was curious to see it for myself. I know some people think its too big and noisy with too many tourists, but I have to say that I love love Rome! The history there is palpable. You can literally feel it running through you when you take it all in. It was a bit overwhelming for me. But in a good way. I am so fascinated by history, thats why I am so in love with vintage. Anything old and you’ve caught my attention. And Rome, Rome is OLD.
You would be just walking down the road, on your way to getting gelato and BAM, there next to you is a huge pillar. Just kicking it on the side of the road. It’s crazy! Truly magical and ridiculously cool.
And yes, there are a lot of tourists. But that’s to be expected. But then you go out at night and all those people just seem to disappear. Maybe all the warnings about theft and pickpocketing has kept them in their hotel rooms. Which is just fine by me.:) But everyone needs to see Rome at night. The later the better. Words can’t really do it justice. You just have to see it for yourself.
So needless to say I came back from this trip pretty inspired. How could you not be. I most definitely will be back to Italy as I am truly in love with it now and there are many parts that I didn’t get to see. But I had to get back to work, and my studio and my animals and my Bjoern. But when I got back I named a few pieces after cities in Italy. Just to have as a little reminder of this special trip that I had with my family.
Taking pictures of my pieces is NOT my forte. I have spent countless hours trying to get good results on my own, but to no avail. Enter Cassie Rawdin… VERVE JEWELRY PHOTOGRAPHER EXTRAORDINAIRE!! Cassie is the very talented photographer responsible for taking all of the beautiful photos you see on vervejewelry.com. It was her idea to wrap the pieces around the succulent plants. Smart little Momma, that one. I love the way the plants compliment the organic feel of my pieces without competing with them. She has a great eye for composition and color and her talent reflects in her photos.
Here are some other examples of Cassie’s work. ENJOY! If you are interested in purchasing any of Cassie’s work or would like her to take pics of your family, pet or special occasion, please contact her at: firstname.lastname@example.org. Or check out her website: www.cassierawdinphotography.com
