“Going Commando”- The newest boys in my life
You could probably say that I was a tomboy when I was a kid. I liked playing in the mud with my neighbors, I collected Hot Wheels like I did Strawberry Shortcake and I had stick races down the gutters with my friends when it rained. I was also enamored with the little plastic green army men that came a hundred to a plastic bag. I used to put them up all over the house and shoot them down with rubber bands. Not one green man was safe. I would put them in windows, on the shelves and in bushes and take aim. I could do this for hours! Ahh… the imagination of little people. I envy that creativity. So in homage to the little men in my childhood that gave me hours of play I decided to make a line of jewelry called, “Going Commando.” I have been wanting to create this line for years now and I made my first one awhile back in silver. But the price of sterling is so high that the line would cost a lot and would not be very affordable for my customers. So recently it came to me that I just needed to make them in brass! They are weighty little fellas, so the brass would be a cost efficient alternative. I can still do them in sterling too, ya just have to ask for a special order.
The little army men I chose to use are vintage army men, to stay true to Verve’s aesthetic. They are from the 50′s-70′s and were acquired from a vintage toy collector. Each little guy comes with his own name, of course, and a portion of “Going Commando’s” online sales will go to a group that supports Veterans families. Group TBD.
